Don’t be blue.
It’s true!
I’m sorry I missed the chance
to slow (or fast) dance
with you.

A thumbnail moon,
End of the year
Start of something new,
But no anxiousness or fear.
Vague shadowed memories
of thin lunars past.
Returned thoughts of lovelies
Who faded much too fast.
To the ones I let
Give my heart pain:
I’ll remember to forget
to dream of them again.
Instead this year I’ll focus on reality
And grasp the full truths and beauties before me.

Her profile shows she is still sporting
those shiny, strapped bright red shoes
which so long ago sent me courting;
which were so oft my romantic muse.
She probably doesn’t now recall
how those hot shoes got my heart going:
So lovely and sultry in the warm fall.
So impractical when it started snowing.
When we for crepes finally met
she sported blue canvas slip-ons.
I wondered: Did she truly forget
the sexy ruby heels of which I was fond?
No. Truthfully, she could just not get that much into
some guy who made such a big deal about her shoes.
See the shoes — the first time

I watched as
Her fingers traced
tenderness,
love,
caring,
and devotion
across her husband’s
weary,
White-shirted back.
Her head leaned
into his burdened shoulder
And she squeezed
His tired muscles
as a contented,
peaceful
smile
danced across her face.
I watched as
Her dainty left hand,
with love-banded heart finger,
Lifted his cares,
Struggles,
the weighted scales
Of dragons fought,
And thorns fought through,
And made them naught.
Oh, Women!
Wives!
Please know
the healing power
Of your caring touch!
Oh, Men!
Husbands
of such companions!
Fall on your knees
And prayerfully weep
with deep
gratitude
for these loving women,
your godly partners.
For are there are many
of us
who weep
bitter tears,
having never known
nor felt
nor been lifted
nor raised up
by such
an elevating touch.

together, both day and night,

Teaching the young what makes them tick/
