A thumbnail moon,
End of the year
Start of something new,
But no anxiousness or fear.
Vague shadowed memories
of thin lunars past.
Returned thoughts of lovelies
Who faded much too fast.
To the ones I let
Give my heart pain:
I’ll remember to forget
to dream of them again.
Instead this year I’ll focus on reality
And grasp the full truths and beauties before me.

I think of Grandma having to clean large garbage cans full of wild grapes that we’d brought from up Mud mud Creek in the canoe.
Today, I walked out into my backyard and harvested domestic grapes from a small arbor vineyard. I only have to wash and clean two small shopping sacks full of grapes that are three times the size of the wild ones Grandma had to clean, washing off the dirt, the cobwebs, the dust, the stems.
Already my feet are sore, my back is tight, my hands and fingers are wrinkled.
I still remember the taste of that wild grape jam, jars and jars and jars she’d made for us.
But, until now, I had no idea how much effort it took.
How Grandma Loved Us!

I got to walk with/
swallows today, but my phone/
camera didn’t work.
There were about 1-2 minutes when a couple of swallows were hovering in my “wind shadow”. I thought I was taking some amazing film of them, close up, so incredible it made me cry. As I went to download the video, I discovered … I hadn’t taken it after all. Sadness. BUT I have the memory, AND this YouTube video gives you some idea of what was happening! https://youtu.be/ulrpRRKz72I
