I hear my girl’s pain./
I caused it. I hope she can/
heal, forgive, reach, grow.

I watched as
Her fingers traced
tenderness,
love,
caring,
and devotion
across her husband’s
weary,
White-shirted back.
Her head leaned
into his burdened shoulder
And she squeezed
His tired muscles
as a contented,
peaceful
smile
danced across her face.
I watched as
Her dainty left hand,
with love-banded heart finger,
Lifted his cares,
Struggles,
the weighted scales
Of dragons fought,
And thorns fought through,
And made them naught.
Oh, Women!
Wives!
Please know
the healing power
Of your caring touch!
Oh, Men!
Husbands
of such companions!
Fall on your knees
And prayerfully weep
with deep
gratitude
for these loving women,
your godly partners.
For are there are many
of us
who weep
bitter tears,
having never known
nor felt
nor been lifted
nor raised up
by such
an elevating touch.

She had been crushed/
by words dropped on her
with power,
by one who used/
and abused/
them well.
I could tell/
her that my verbs/
and nouns/
and words/
were tender/
and soft /
like butterfly kisses,/
but only time/
could heal her/
and make her well/
once more flow.

We opened up the/
past. That could have brought pain, but/
it just brought healing.

A friend inadvertently spoke/created a poem for her grandkids. (You can read it here.) That typical “not knowing”, on Mother’s Day, inspired this piece. Happy Mother’s Day to all mothers who, like her, don’t know.
Like a typical mother,
She’d influenced lives
(she didn’t know);
She’d spread joy
(she didn’t know);
She’d written poetic words of wisdom
(she didn’t know);
She’d taught self-esteem and
charity-pure love and
happiness
(she didn’t know).
She’d nourished,
and comforted,
and guided,
and protected,
and grown,
and fostered,
and healed,
and helped,
and blessed
(she didn’t know).
Like mothers everywhere
and in every time,
she didn’t know
what she’d done,
and what she was doing,
still.
And people would look
at what she did,
and exclaim:
“How could she not know?!?”
The answer is simple:
Mothers don’t need to know.
They just do.
And she still won’t know
unless
you tell her.

His tender voice will/
no longer calm and heal folks/
if they won’t listen.
OR
My tender voice will/
no longer calm and heal her/
if she won’t listen.

In the past we’d have /
lain with the pain to heal. Now,/
that’s no solution.
