You have proclaimed it:
We can stand, wit to wit.
But now, see my postings erased.
Such pained bantering is not my taste.
I apologize … and quit.

After I posted this Haiku: Remembering Crushing, the woman who inspired it noted that I cut off her face. (I did it to protect her identity). She jokingly commented: “Umm, do you realize you chopped off my head in the picture you posted? lol! Guess it wasn’t my face you were gazing at!”
That, in turn, inspired this poem … and the full photo:

She’d thought it was her/
nearly perfect body he’d/
crushed on. It wasn’t.

Alas! I feel too tired./

You could have met me, yet/
there was something you just don’t get./
The wit, the comedy, the intelligence, the flair,/
the romance, the courtesy, it’s still all there,/
like a gerkin and pastrami, smelly,/
straight from Katz’s Deli./
You coulda been “having what she’s having!”,/
and it woulda been served with no grabbin’./
You coulda won your heart’s bet./
You coulda been served morning lattes/
with dark chocolate./
With Mr. Buble,/
we coulda danced
and romanced/
to his latest romantic duet … /
and yet….
Here we sit. /
Another week’s come and gone./
It’s the pits/
what you haven’t done/
to have met/
me yet.

With her, I’d have to agree:
She of the raven hair,
subtle smile, piercing stare,
is an enigma, somewhat, to me.
She is thus self-professed,
and seems to feel that way,
so I’m not sure what to say
that would turn her head best.
I could, I suppose, compliment
her beauty, wit, and grace.
But women are more than their face,
and she’ll tire of praise too often sent.
So I’ll simply ask her: “What do you think a man should do,
to avoid disaster when he finds an enigmatic woman to woo?”
