My sister told the tale/
of being under sail/
years before.
She capsized,/
but she knew,/
and was not surprised/
with how quickly from the shore/
our Father flew/
to her rescue.
While I was glad/
that she was loved by our Dad,/
I knew/
Between him and me/
there would never be/
such sharing/
or attentive caring.
Yesterday, decades hence,/
my cousin and I went/
on a day sail,
and our mast ripped apart and failed.
So, we drifted, demasted,
but my anxiousness only lasted/
a moment or two/
before I knew/
that once more/
my Dad had watched from shore/
and quickly, in his boat without crew,
was coming to his child’s rescue.
Because that’s what Dads do.

As I wrote one haiku, several others followed, with deeper realization behind each.
What’s The Point?: Revolutionary ImproVerse Haiku Lament, 5:20 a.m.
If you wait for calm/
seas before you sail, you’ll n’er/
go anywhere fun.
Or
If you wait for calm/
seas before you sail, you will/
always stay on shore.
Or
If you wait for calm/
seas before you sail, you’ll stay/
moored, bored or becalmed.
OR
Waiting for calm seas/
before you sail? Why even/
risk the adventure?
==============
Why Wait To Sail? Revolutionary ImproVerse Haiku 5:27 a.m.
If you leave harbor/
with no rudder or mast, your/
trip will be cut short.
Or
If you leave harbor/
with no rudder and no mast,/
disaster awaits!

I Need A Crew: Revolutionary ImproVerse Haiku 5:46 a.m.
Life’s sail is better/
when you have a first mate and/
not just passengers.
