Never a wallflower, I imagined, briefly,/
how life would be, completely./
Dancing, wrapped with another soul/
willing to hear the beat and let go.
One who wouldn’t deny/
life’s dangerous hue and cry./
One who’d boldly face with me/
life’s joyous possibilties.
She who’d gathered and devored
words of discovery, verse of power.
She who (I hoped) could see/
and dance the dance of eternity.
But now as I gaze at her smiling, hopeful face,
it seems she is dancing in another space.
