Unseen Sunsets Are Still There: Revolutionary Blogging Free Verse Poem
May 25, 2016The first thunderstorm
has passed.
The next one,
slated for post-dusk,
is gathering.
In the peaceful
interlude
I sit on the dock,
overlook the lake,
and snap yet another
Wisconsin lake
sunset photograph.
This one, though,
is dark.
Grey-blue.
Little light.
Post-storm.
Eerie,
and yet ….
I send the grainy snapshot
to those who have appreciated
past captured sunsets.
Used to
bright,
vibrant,
orange-yellow-red-blue-teal-cottonwhite-peach-salmon-rose-rust
color-streaked skies
and clouds swirled together
like neopolitan ice cream
or saltwater taffy,
most see
nothing.
Just a black rectangle
with a glimmer of blue.
“Where is what?!?” they ask.
“I don’t see it!” they say.
Though different,
cold,
grey,
this, too,
captures and feels/
the way a sunset should:/
Peaceful.
Calm.
Contemplative.
Restful.
Respectful.
Introspective,
capturing the day’s
gentle,
soft mood,
with just enough light
to let hope
rush through the night
toward a new day.
