How I Dream We’ll Dream
We’ll lay, side-by-side,/
warm, beneath the moon’s light, with/
just our hands clasping.

When I am grey and/
old perhaps I, too, will have/
a sweet hand to hold.

When I hold your hand/
can you stand/
a butterfly’s wings,/
(delicate, tender things,)/
unfolding as it fans?
Tracing across your palm and wrist?
Dancing lightly, like a butterfly’s kiss?
And then matching fingers’ gentle trace?
Moving up from your hand to cup your face?
Can you tolerate hand holding that grand?
If you can,
I might yet be your man.

Though I didn’t know how,/
I thought by now/
we’d be holding hands,/
more than friends./
But U r off in a never-never land/
and I’m still sleeping alone again.

There are couples
walking around
and looking
and holding hands
and laughing
and being excited
and having tea together.
Is that 2 much
2 want?
2 much
2 wish 4?
Dancing
doing
laughing
going hiking
visiting
talking

I visited a friend, who served me chocolate from the Big Island. We drifted off to platonic sleep. I dreamed. These are versions of the same dream haiku. I don’t know what she dreamed of.
We ate choco-late./
Holding hands,we fell asleep,/
dreaming of palm trees.
————
We ate chocolate late./
I caressed her face, hair, hands;/
We dreamed of gold sands.
We ate chocolate late./I caressed her face and hands./We dreamt golden sands.
