Trying To Listen, Trying To Be: Revolutionary ImproVerse Free Verse

December 2, 2014

It has been a very
long
time
since I have tried
to listen
to the Spirit
in everything
I do.

I’ve spent the last
lost
several years
lost,
just doing
my own thing,
not
having the Spirit
with me at
all.

That is a difficult habit
to get out of,
making your own decisions
and just doing
whatever
you want.
I don’t hear him
very well
yet.
I don’t even ask him
as much as
I should.

I am learning.
I’m very sorry
that you get caught
in the crossfire
of my ignorance.

And my mother and I
sing “I’m trying to be
like Jesus,”
and I cry because
so often
I fail
and
so often
I hurt others.
I don’t want to.

What If We Just DO? Revolutionary ImproVerse Free Verse

January 1, 2014

What is it
that causes us,
at a certain age,
to believe we can’t
do
something?

What is it
that holds us back
from following
our true self?

Is it
the belief
that it’s “too late”?

What if
we just assume
we
could
do
what we want?

What if
we just say:
“I’m going
to do
this thing?”
And then
we went out
and did it?

Or we didn’t do it?

Maybe we failed at it.
So?
At least we tried.

What if,
instead of saying
that our life
sucks
or that this
and this
and that
went wrong,
we instead
look
at all
the good things
that are happening
in our life?
All the things
we are able
to do?
All the opportunities
that we have,
that we took,
that we do
and did?

What if,
instead of apologizing
for things
we don’t
do
well,
or for things
we don’t do,
we do,
and we do
the best we can,
and we take
humble pride
in knowing that
we tried.

What if,
every day,
we salute
the sunrise,
or the thumbnail
moon,
or the sunset,
or the stars?

What if,
in our heavenly
salutations,
we think
of a “Do New” thing
that we’re going to do,
and then we go
and do that thing?

What if,
every time somebody says,
“I can’t believe
all the things
you do,
and how full
your life is!”
we smile at them
and say:
“You could, too.
I believe in you.
Go and do.”

What if
they do?

What if
we all do?
